Dartmoor Plodders

No Retreat-No Surrender

As many, if not all, of you are aware, Stuart R Brown took over the running of the Dartmoor Plodders many years ago, and his life became the Dartmoor Plodders. He dedicated very much of his time and efforts to the walking group helping it prosper, and providing an alternative to the run of the mill youth walking group. Participating in the Ten Tors Challenge, and other organised walks on Dartmoor, the Dartmoor Plodders became a well known name amongst many of the moors regulars, making the group the icon that is is today.

In early 2013 Stuart was diagnosed with Leukaemia, and during his hospital visits, passed the running of the group to his son, Huccaby S Brown. Stuart tried his very best, against all the odds, to continue putting much of his time and most of his effort into being there for as much of the training and groups walks as possible, but was again taken ill in early 2014, again leaving Huck at the helm. Very sadly, shortly after the 2014 Ten Tors event, Stuart was rushed into hospital and put into intensive care and put into a coma. He died in the coma on the 21st May 2014.

Huck took on the great honour of running the walking group which Stuart put so much time and energy into, and continues to run the Dartmoor Plodders as well as he can. This is of course made much easier through the fantastic and unprecedented support from Dartmoor Plodder veterans, who act as support staff and junior leaders.

This year we continue the recurring Stuart Brown Memorial Walk, in Stuart's honour, giving us all a time to remember him, and pass through some of his favourite area's of the moor, and finishing at his very prized Dartmoor locale; the Fox Tor Café!

Parents and supporters are welcome on this walk, and we can provide support teams if required. It should be noted that this is a goodly long walk, and vehicle logistics will need to be considered.
